the question for you this morning, is fema necessary? fema fever, it's back! everybody has caught it, including new jersey governor, chris christie, who toured the damage along with fema administrator craig fugate and president obama. one man, iowa congressman, steve king, thinks fema has a fever. >> i want to get them the resources that are necessary to lift them out of this water and this sand and the ashes and the death that's over there in the east coast and especially in the northeast. but not one big shot that just opens up the checkbook, because they spent it on gucci bags and massage parlors and everything you can think of in addition to what was necessary. >> congressman king, who is up for re-election, seems to be echoing the sentiments of some of his republican, including senator lynndie graham who said, quote, we can't borrow money every time something goes wropg in america and ron paul who asks, quote, why should people like myself, who not too long ago had a house on a gulf coast, it's expensive, risky and dirngous. why should somebody from the c

sometimes people just think fema and don't think about the people behind it. but craig lives and breathes this stuff, making sure we're providing the help people so desperately need. i want to thank all the first responders who have been involved in this process. the linesmen, the firefighters, the folks who are in here shuttling out people who were supposed to get the hell out and didn't, you've helped to save a lot of lives and property. one of the things that you learn in these tragedies is the first responders, keep in mind their homes are usually under water or their families have been affected in some way. yet they make those personal sacrifices to help others. i'm just going to make a couple of comments. number one, and most importantly, our hearts go out to the families that have lost loved ones. it's true that the loss of life was kept lower than it might have been, but for those individual families, obviously their world has been torn apart. we need to make sure that everybody who has lost a loved one knows they're in our thoughts and prayers. i spea

how is fema responding? >> i visited with fema yet at the federal staging area. i will say initially i was somewhat concerned because there were some forest service assets on the ground. they obviously were involved in a search and rescue mission. that's critically important. as the search and rescue mission begins to wind down, i had emphasized the need for the forest service to get on the streets. you cannot drive anywhere on long island or virtually anywhere on long island without having to detour because there is a tree blocking the way and a tree that has brought power lines down with it. so i'd asked fema to ratchet up their response to help with the removal of downed trees. about an hour later, i must say, i received word from fema that they had asked the national forest service to not only deploy assets but deploy additional assets. there are about 40 forest service personnel on long island when i had asked. they put an additional 40 yesterday. i'm told that there's an additional 40 on the way right now. >> congressman steve israel, sir, thanks for taking
